In October of 2006 we began our eyeglasses ministry to bring “the gift of sight” to the people of the altiplano of northern Chile. As one woman said to VIM Ann Burger, “This will be like a birthday and Christmas gift for me to be able to receive a pair of eyeglasses so that I might be able to see well again.” Our goal is to visit outlying pueblos, some as far as 3 to 5 hours away from the nearest city, on a regular basis and provide donated prescription glasses. This project has in part been made possible by the guidance of Mission volunteers Mark and Johanna Waltz, who brought the necessary eye equipment and expertise to run our first eyeglass clinic in October 2006, especially the donation of a needed Focometer.
